Task 1/ Exercises1~3

Week 1: Gestalt and contrast

Week 1's lecture was about different elements of design, contrast and what it is.We then learned about the 12 principles, I've done research on these before and there are varying amounts of principles but we learned about 12 of them being: balance, emphasis, repetition, movement, harmony, unity, contrast, figure-ground, similarity, proximity, continuity and closure.

final outcome:

 (figure 1.3: contrast)
This is a handle of a door,I trying to use shadow and light to contrast.
(figure 1.4: gestalt)
This is use black and white rectangle to shows gestalt, you can identify a white rectangle in the center without any line.

(figure 1.5: gestalt)
In this picture, the roof looks like roof,I try to express every family is protected by people who living in this house.
 (figure 1.6: gestalt)
This is a puffer fish also is a pan, because puffer fish is so delicious.

Feed back
During the first week, because I back to China last week, I need isolate myself in hotel for two week,so I have no tools and materials without pen and paper.

Week 2: Emphasis and Balance

This weeks lecture was about the design principles Emphasis and Balance. Emphasis shows the technique used to draw the audiences attention to a certain subject using contrasting elements or colors or graphics and lines leading into it.

final outcome:
 (figure 2.3:emphasis)
(figure 2.4:balance)
Lecturer's feedback:
In the first picture,Ms Jinchi teach me do more on the buld and make the centro part is easier to be emphasis.
In the second work,Ms Jinchi give me some advise about whole picture.First the top part in this work,I need to rethink about it,do more on it or delete it to try a need express myth.Second, the four slogan better to aline with the title.
Final outcome:
(figure 2.5:emphasis)
This work is try to let people's eyes focous on the bulb. And I want to emphasis the brain inside the bulb.Because good idea is like light to insprite people to thinking, especially in design.

(figure 2.6:balance)
This work is about 70'S supper star David Bowie, who paint the orange lighting on face.I try to paint his eyes on the centrosymmetric position. And put the tittle on the centro. Then on the four corner I use some element try to keep the whole picture in balance.

Week 3:Repetition and Movement
This weeks lecture was about the design principles Repetition & Movement. Repetition is the uses of repeated shapes or elements in a piece to create a composition. Movement is a composition that shows the movement in an image. An image is a lot of elements can be used to show movement including lines and actions and different parts of the composition to emphasize the subject to be moving.

 (figure3.2:sketch of repetition)
(figure3.3:sketch of movement)

Lecturer's feedback:Ms Jinchi adviced me to do more sketch on this two elements, and choose the best one as the final outcome.

(figure3.4 repetion)
In this work I want use the change of moon in one month to show the principle of "Repetition". And I arranged the moon to compose a symbol"∞", It means day by day, times will never stop.
(figure3.5:movement)
I do this work just because I like noodles so much, and I have lots exprience of  some splashes of oil on my clothes when I ate noodles. But I hope peoples eye can follow the noodles to the egg, then comes to chopsticks.

Week 4:Harmony,Unity and Proportion
This week we learn these two elements, both of these two elements is not easy to understand to me.Harmony involves the selection of elements that share a common trait. It beomes monotony without variety.Unity occurs when these elements are composed in such a way that they are balanced and give a sense of oneness, creating a theme.Use it tomake the whole project in balance. Proportion is the relationship of two or more elements in a design and how they compare with one another. The effective use of proportion in design often results in harmony and unity.
