Task 3 (A) / Book

Layout references:

I tried coming up with 3 grid systems:

In the end, I decided to go with the grid below, which not in the first 3 grid systems.

I then created the type specimen sheet to determine which typeface I would use for my book. Below are the options I was choosing from:
figure1.4: font scheme1

figure1.5: font scheme2

figure1.6: font scheme3

My final choice is the first one in Figure 1.6, which is:

Headline: Orelega One Regular, 32pt
Body Text: Candara Regular, 11pt
Subtext: Candara Italic, 6pt
Pull Quote: Segoe Script Bold, 30pt

Starting the layout design, I worked on all of the text including the images.

After consulting with Mr. Vinod, he gave me some feedback, I need to make the width of the text consistent.

Until the last final book layout, I change lots of versions, but I didn't save it all, and I also hard to order all these different versions to follow the timeline very clearly.

First Book Layout:

This is my first time to try on the whole book, I finish everything there, and it looks very similar to the final one, but I know I need to fix a lot of problems here because it looks still like a row book.

After feedback from Mr. Vinod, he told me a lot of detail things I need to adjust it so then I came to this version.

This one is almost okay. but to print a better book, I work on it by one day before I sent it to the print store.
Here is the version I printed out.

Final Book Layout(21/06/09):

After Mr. Vinod's final feedback, I adjust it again.
Even the physical book has been print out last week.

After finalizing the design, I went on to print the book. I contacted a store and asked them to recommend to me what I can print the designs on. In the end, I decide to print the book using 200gsm art paper for the cover, 157gsm art paper for the content.

Feedback

Week 6:
- Continue with F&M color and text
- do 3 option of grid

Week 7:
-  Review typographic lecture video
- Imprint need to put Taylor address
- Watch back sem 1/2 Indesign formatting
- Can add caption into visual design

Week 8:
-        ILW

Week 9:
- The size of the spacing below the Taylor's Press logo has to be the same as the height of the logo.
- Excess is for bleed. We will need to print our books out.
- Try doing test print to see what paper works well for the book.
- Pull quote doesn't have to be that readable, can treat it differently.

Reflection

Experience:
I published a book of my own, with everything from the content to the illustrations to the design and typography, with every detail under his control. When I went to the print shop, I also discussed with the staff what kind of paper I should use to print the book. In a word, all the efforts had never been experienced. I liked it.

Observations:
Publishing a book is a lot more complicated than I thought it would be, in terms of design, how it’s going to be interesting, how it’s going to be coherent, how it’s going to be perfect. In post-print publishing, faced with the choice of paper, the color richness of a variety of issues, need to communicate and solve their own.

Findings:
Communication ability is very important for designers, in the future to participate in any project is faced with and their partners to solve a variety of problems. And as a designer, it’s important to understand the material, to touch and feel the material directly.

History of ID Week 7 Part 1: You Like Hearing About the Bauhaus

It gave me a semester of studying typography and graphic design, and then one weekend I decided I wanted to learn something else, so I found YouTuber, who is a mentor in industrial design. Industrial designers are always in contact with all kinds of materials, and the way they design depends on the materials, which makes me feel something new, it’s also interesting to try to design something new with different materials.
